Numerous reports coming from Russian media outlets say Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, has been placed in medically-induced coma.
According to a report from Sports Express, the 57-year old trainer is currently in critical condition at a hospital in a Moscow-based military hospital as he suffered complications from pneumonia.
Meanwhile, Russia Today wrote: “Abdulmanap is in a bad condition, he’s in Moscow and in a coma. They didn’t treat him properly in Dagestan, and some complications arose. They flew him to Moscow, where he is now in a military hospital. He’s on his own there, they won’t allow family (to visit)”.

Honorable Life
The undefeated Russian champion has yet to release a statement on the news but his employer, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has sent a message of support to his family during this tough time.
“Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true martial artist who lives a life of pride, honor and respect,” UFC’s president Dana White wrote on social meida.
“He instilled those same values in his son, world champion Khabib, at an early age and was always in his corner throughout his career.”
“I know how close Khabib is with his father and I’m saddened to hear about his current state. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the Nurmagomedov family as he continues to fight.”

Health Scare
Last month, Khabib’s friend Ramazan Rabadanov reported that Abdulmanap was hospitalized due to pneumonia and influenza, though it was not confirmed if he has been infected with the deadly coronavirus.
“Abdulmanap is in Makhachkala, in the Second City Hospital. He got sick in the mountains,” the sports commentator said.
“He walked for two days, the brothers barely persuaded to go to the hospital. While coronavirus is not confirmed. They say the flu. No one is allowed to visit him. The world champion Shamil Zavurov also fell ill. They say there are other sick athletes.”
Days after being hospitalized, the 57-year old issued a statement about his condition, saying “I feel fine. Everything is well.”
Abdulmanap is one of the architects of Khabib’s immaculate 28-0 mixed martial arts record. He last fought in September 2019, when he defeated Dustin Poirier in his second title-retention bid. The Russian champ will return later this year to unify the lightweight belts with Justin Gaethje.
